Tech Forums

Friday 3PM-5PM / Satuday 9AM-5PM & Sunday 9AM-11AM

Take a break and have breakfast at the Convention and learn or be entertained by the speaker. The Speakers are usually very entertaining and informative. You may learn some new ways to use your radio, how to work a new mode, or just be entertained. When lunch is all over be sure to visit the Exhibiters Hall or one of the many Tech Forms going on every hour. Do not forget to buy a ticket and enter the grand prize drawing. The Grand Prize is sure to be one of the top Radios. Your Grand Prize Ticket is also good for the hourly prizes.

Special Event Radio Station

Friday 3PM-7PM / Satuday 9AM-5PM & Sunday 9AM-Noon

An Icom IC-7600, like last time and identical to the prize, so that all purchasers of prize tickets can get their hands wet playing with a radio that is identical to the grand prize. We also have an IC-746PRO but most likely the antenna will be in use so we will have just 2 meters available Kenwood TM241’s and Yaesu FT2400 all on 2 meters for monitoring.

T-Hunt

We are planning on the "Hands On T-Hunting" event to be after things slow down on Saturday afternoon say 4:30 - 6:00 PM +/-.  We will have a short On-Foot hunt around the Convention area for people that want to compete along with a practice T for those that don't have equipment but want to try it to see what it is like.  Very similar to the "Fry's Operating Day" event.  A Prize for first place!

Mobile T-hunt will be Sunday after things slow down, say 1:30 to 5:00 PM starting from the Convention Center and ending at Montgomery Field.  Prizes for as many places as we have prizes for.

ARDF (Amateur Radio Direction Finding), T-Hunting, Transmitter Hunting, "Fox Hunting" or "Rabbit Hunting" is an increasing popular, challenging and educational activity among Amateur Radio Operators, where a radio transmitter is purposely hidden somewhere and "Hunted Down" or located by using radio direction finding techniques and equipment.  Applications include:  Search and Rescue, Wildlife Tracking, Downed  Airplanes, Boaters in distress, un-intentional interference (such as a stuck microphone key) and the "Occasional Intentional Interference" such as Jammers.
Mobile Hunts are common in Southern California in which you may end up exiting your vehicle and pursuing the "Hidden T" or sometimes "Multiple T's" on foot with portable ARDF gear in a park or open space area.  International Style On-Foot Hunts are held in the Los Angeles area several time a year.  See www.homingin.com  for information on Los Angeles events and
